Trip to Wyoming

My Mom, Dad, Harper and I went to Wyoming to visit my mother's best friend from high school, Patty. Their family and ours have known each other for so long that they are family to us so we actually refer to Pattys boys and wives as our cousins and aunt and uncle.

We went to Casper Wyoming and they live on the side of the Casper Mts. It is the cutest little cabin and absolutely beautiful country to be in.

This is right outside her cabin, she laid out crab apples so that the deer could eat. We then would set up our rifles and shoot/ :) KIDDING...This mama deer had her twin babies with her.

This is over at the Natural Bridge. It is part of the Oregon Trail. All of you should know your history and know that is where the pioneers came across! It is a beautiful place with the river running across it. Mom and Patty are having a conversation with Harper!

This is at the Sun Ranch. There is a little museum here that tells the history of the Mormon pioneers that crossed over the trail to get to Salt Lake.
First I have to mentioned that the church really keeps things beautiful and well manicured, it is always a pleasure to visit when things are so well taken care of.
Okay now the other part. Growing up in the church I always remembered being told about the pioneers and how they walked and sang the song..Pioneer children sang as they walked and walked and walked...I honestly never really got it. Then I go here and see and hear what these amazing people did.
It would take anywhere from 300-500$ to outfit a wagon for a family to come across the plains, so President Brigham Young had to think of a more economical way for the saints to come over; especially the ones that were coming over from England. They had used all their money to get to the USA and then to travel to Iowa City. They then couldn't afford to buy the wagon and supplies. So they came up with the Handcart; 17.5lbs per person was all that they could take. It was almost 2000 miles to Salt Lake. They had no extra shoes, clothing, or food. All they had was the faith and testimony that the church is true and that the Lord will be with them.
One of the stories on the plaques was about a woman who already had her husband and a child in the cart, her 8 year old son couldn't walk anymore so she put him on her back and continued to pull the handcart.
The stories of the Martin Handcart company was also told. They had to get to Devil's Gate by the 4th of July, and they knew that they would make SLC by winter. The martin handcart company didn't.
They then would go another 6 miles or so to Independence Rock and camp. This rock has names in it from 1800, from families that made it. It is amazing and humbling. One funny thought; some Mormon rock cutters made extra money by charging the pioneers that came thru 3-5$ to carve their name in the rocks:)

This is the natural bridge.

This is Devil's Gate. You know I like the name:). The pioneers wouldn't actually go thru it they went to the right of it. However, the martin handcart Company took shelter in there when the blizzard came thru and before they were rescued. The Indians named it.

The buffalo. We tried to get Patty to go in there and slap that buffalo rear...she wouldn't do it;)
Wyoming is beautiful country with an insane amount of history. If I ever wanted NOT to be found this is the place that I would go!

Patty, Mom, Jen (Jason's wife) and one of their daughters Chloe. They had us over for a bar-b-que and we had a great time! Jen also took me to a place called Once upon a Child. It is a second hand store. I LOVED IT!
Thank you to the Pruitt's for a great time...Loves
